USA chapter: Volcanic legacy tour
This trip was probably the least planned so far and it turned out to be a lot of fun. We started off with "Let's go see Crater Lake and drive back to San Francisco", and ended up following an amazing road that led us from one volcano to another along the 500 miles of the Volcanic Legacy Scenic Byway. We went from almost sea level to above 2000m three times over the weekend, driving through the forest that had us questioning our sense of direction and the sanity of our GPS. We hiked/ran/crawled some (at times, literally) breathtaking trails gasping for more oxygen. It was not all rainbows and butterflies: there were some fatalities on our trip (two suicidally inclined chipmunks can now rest in peace with the pheasant ran over by Graham 3 years ago in New Zealand)...
At the end, we did get back to San Francisco full of memories made over these 3 days and a new itch to do another American road-trip as soon as we can :)
